I qualified as yoga teacher in the autumn of 2009 and by early 2010 I was on a new journey with unexpected locations awaiting me.
In 2010, I took a yoga and surfing holiday in Morocco. I had a very gentle surfing understanding from a few years earlier and I thought it the perfect combination. I had a week in the sun and enjoyed 'going with the flow' for yoga, surf & lifestyle and flew home feeling refreshed. A few days after returning home the surf school emailed me, their yoga teacher had unexpectedly left, could I come and teach for the summer? It wasn't hard to say yes ! I spent about 5 weeks leading classes under the hot skies of North Africa and loved it.
In 2014, I hosted my first yoga holiday in Greece. Twelve clients and myself spending seven nights indulging in yoga, delicious food and adventure was as rewarding for me as for my students.
A few years later, I came together with a local southern England vineyard to offer a weekend retreat with the added speciality of English sparkling wine, a curated menu and cosy accommodation.
I have travelled on a yoga holiday to Ibiza and then stepped in to teach when the yoga teacher became unwell. I have lead classes on the beaches of Cornwall, England and Perth, Australia. I have yoga-ed in the Caribbean, in India and in Europe.
Meanwhile, I have had 'celebrity' one to one clients and a client who wished to master their headstand and wanted dedicated, individual and specialised support. My first class after qualifying was at my local David Lloyd club, where I still, after 15 years, lead 5 classes each week.
I have hosted workshops on the chakra system, beginners programs with supporting manuals and deeply nourishing meditation and nidra sessions.
All of these teaching locations and workshops and classes are examples of the opportunities that await your teaching career. When you open yourself to new career, you never know where in the world you'll end up. One of the many beauties of being a yoga teacher is everything that you learn is inside of you, readily available to share at a moments notice. As your yoga journey continues you can add to this firm foundation of knowledge, discovering your niche areas of interest and even the countries you wish to work in.
Most importantly you can be yourself. We all like and are attracted to different types of people and the 'students' who are attracted your classes will actually be buying into you. You can confidently host classes with your own personality and in trust and knowledge that the 'right' people will attend your classes.
I hope this blog has inspired you to consider how exciting your yoga career could be. It's more than just your teacher training, your journey is a life long adventure.
Feel free to get in touch with any questions or inspiration.
Best wishes, Lucy x
